H3C servers are compatible with the all-new fifth generation AMD EPYC series processors

On October 10th, AMD’s “Advancing AI 2024” global launch event was held in San Francisco, USA, where the all-new fifth generation AMD EPYC was grandly introduced ™ 9005 series processors. H3C UniServer R3950 G7 and R4950 G7, owned by Tsinghua Unigroup, have completed the adaptation and upgrade of AMD’s new products. This upgrade not only strengthens the computing power support of New H3C servers in the field of artificial intelligence, but also provides customers with more powerful, efficient, and flexible computing solutions, accelerating the deep integration and development of AI technology and industry.

Continuously evolve for higher performance

The AMD EPYC 9005 series processor is the latest generation of AMD EPYC server processor family, which has set hundreds of performance and efficiency world records. The EPYC 9005 series processor family adopts an efficient and high-performance “Zen5” processor core architecture, providing more cores, higher frequency support, and faster memory speed than the previous generation products.

The AMD EPYC 9005 series processors include multiple core counts (ranging from 8 cores to up to 192 cores and 384 threads), frequencies (up to 5GHz), and are both energy-efficient and cost competitive. This diverse product portfolio is unified through x86 software compatibility, allowing customers to deploy with the required scale, performance, or efficiency using the Universal Instruction Set Architecture (ISA), enabling servers based on AMD EPYC 9005 series processors to support any business needs almost without modifying software, ensuring universality and applicability in various application scenarios.

From empowering enterprise AI applications to supporting large-scale cloud infrastructure, to hosting and deploying the most demanding business critical applications, the EPYC 9005 series processors not only meet the growing AI empowerment needs of enterprises, but also utilize advanced virtualization and cloud technology to improve energy efficiency and help enterprises achieve sustainable development.

Adapt and upgrade to increase the number of machine cores to 384 cores

H3C collaborates with AMD to upgrade two server products, H3C UniServer R3950 G7 2U single channel server and R4950 G7 2U dual channel server, with a maximum support of 384 cores per machine. With the improvement of computing performance, enterprises can adopt virtualization and cloud computing technologies to achieve high resource intensification. With only a small number of new physical machines, they can flexibly respond to the growing computing needs. By integrating IT infrastructure, reducing the space occupation of data centers, effectively controlling data center operating costs, and maintaining rapid response to future demands.

H3C UniServer R3950/R4950 G7 servers

The R3950/R4950 G7 server has a memory rate of up to 6000MT/s and a 33% increase in memory bandwidth compared to the previous generation. With CXL 2.0 technology, it can support up to 16 memory sticks, significantly enhancing data processing capabilities and expansion flexibility, and can efficiently handle complex workloads and big data processing; At the same time, CXL 2.0 also optimizes data transmission, reduces latency and bottlenecks, and is particularly suitable for real-time data analysis, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence applications, providing excellent computing performance and flexibility for enterprises.

For general artificial intelligence workloads, such as language models with 13 billion parameters or less, the R3950/R4950 G7 can run efficiently with only the CPU without configuring a GPU; For larger language models, such as those with 15 billion parameters or more, real-time AI training, and other high demand generative AI workloads, additional GPU support is typically required. The R3950/R4950 G7 server can support up to 4 dual wide GPUs, using a GPU center configuration and supporting a working temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, ensuring optimal performance even under complex AI workloads.

As a market leader, New H3C Smart Computing has consistently ranked among the top two in the Chinese server market for 14 consecutive quarters (data source: IDC China Market Analysis Report). Looking towards the future, New H3C Group will uphold the concept of “cultivating practicality and endowing the times with wisdom”, continuously work with partners including AMD to create more diverse, open, efficient, and green intelligent computing power, and empower the digital transformation of customers in various industries.
